How can I recognize fake or scam profiles?

We take the issue of fake and scam profiles very seriously as it can affect the experience of the whole community at Popcorn.

These days, fakers and scammers behave in surprisingly different ways. However, with a few simple steps, it's often easy to catch them out:

--------------

Be suspicious if someone asks you to switch to another platform or program.

If you receive a message at the very beginning of a conversation asking you to switch to “Google Hangout”, “WhatsApp” or “Kik” etc., this is a clear warning signal. It's often a way for the scammer to get your email address or a phone number.

---------------

Stay in the chats and messages of the Popcorn app! At least until you and the other person have built up a relationship of trust. Then you can decide whether you are willing to pass on private information.

---------------

If the other person is genuine, they will understand. If they are pushy, aggressive or try to convince you that it's an emergency, don't fall for it. It's a trick!

---------------

When someone asks for personal information, it's always a reason for mistrust.

---------------
You wouldn't give your details to someone you just met on the street five minutes ago, would you? If someone asks you for bank or social security details, contact support immediately!

---------------
Contact us if someone asks for money or if a user offers payment!
We don't allow this on Popcorn, report this user to us immediately!
